At dim sum even. So soupy that it was such a shame it burst when I picked it up. Maybe because I let it sit on my plate for a minute or 2 to cool. Well I didn't have a soup spoon and I wasn't going to pop a burning hot XLB into my mouth whole. And I only got that one piece, because we never saw them come around again. Boo HOO.
Even with lost soup, the filling was juicy and tender, the wrapper a tiny bit chewy but still soft. Very good rendition.
Other dim sum items were mostly excellent. It was all a blur, I was chatting so much so I don't remember many details. I'd say the variety is way above the places I've had recently: HKFL, Mr. Fong's, and Mayflower Milpitas. There was a shrimp thing sandwiched with two lotus root cross-cut slices that was crispy but soft at the same time. Egg custart tart had a very nice flaky crust but the filling was just okay (and strangely yellow green). Roast duck was weak, flabby skin and more fat than meat.
Service for our large group was excellent, tray/cart ladies were mostly communicable to non-chinese speakers. And the biggest plus, they take reservations. I kind of felt bad that we lingered and took so long to hug & say our goodbyes while hordes were waiting for our 2 tables. So I'm sorry if you were waiting forever for a table at Joy Luck Place today!
