I have been reading with fascination and hunger about "soup dumplings" on this board, and want to try these out tonight. Are soup dumplings (I guess they are call Xialaobao or xlb) the same as pot stickers? Or are they more like hotbuns that you get at dimsum?
Also, it is apparent that Din Tai Fung and Mei Long Village are the concensus winners of best soup dumplings, but Din Tai Fung only makes them on weekends and then only 40. If this is true, it would be best to go to Mei Long Village, right?
Any suggestions on the proper way to order soup dumplings (xlb) at Mei Long Village or Din Tai Fung for this gringo (and any other must trys at these places) would be greatly appreciated.
