Soul food in Minneapolis is such an oxymoron, but I found an authentic place. TAHTIANNA'S opened up in the storefront that used to be Brickhouse BBQ. My wife and I went looking for the Brickhouse a month ago, found this one and now have a new favorite.

What's good? The greens have an amazing smoky flavor, probably because it was cooked with a giant ham hock. The yam tasted like candy. The corn bread blew me away. My wife had the fried catfish our first time there, and the meat was so sweet! I had the jerk chicken, which was moist and tender, and obviously flavorful. This time, she had the smothered pork chops and I had the rib tips. Both are amazing. The portions are enormous and the price point is low, around $12 - $13 per entree.

So what's the downside? It's a little out of the way in North Minneapolis. The service is agonizingly slow. On average, it takes 45 minutes to get served. But then, the chef comes out and puts down your plate himself. Then it's sort of a haze..
