smooth surface w. rolling pins

will a french tapered rolling pin help me get a smooth, even surface on my rolled cookies? would a silcone rolling pin be my best bet for ease of cleaning and good results?

i have a small wooden rolling pin with handles and after my rolled cookies are baked, there are obvious bumps in the surface (even though i can't see the bumps before they go in the oven). any tips on rolling dough to prevent the uneven surface would be appreciated too.
