Went to the newly opened Smokey Rhodes BBQ in Flat Rock today for dinner, and was pleasantly surprised.They opened in a old coney location at Telegraph and Huron River Drive. Very small place that probally seats 25 -30 people that was nicely decorated, it had that up north wood log cabin feel to it. I had a slab of the St. Louis spare ribs, and the wife had the BBQ chicken. Both of the the meat selections were very good. The wife enjoyed the chicken because they have a mild smoke flavor to the meat. I could not get her to go to Slows with me, because she thought the smoke flavor overpowered the meat. The ribs were also very good with a nice smoke ring. The meals come with Corn Bread made from Jiffy Mix that is very good, the only knock on the corn bread is that I like my corn bread hot out of the oven, this corn bread was fresh ,just not hot. You also get to pick 2 sides. I had the Cole Slaw that was good and the Mac and Cheese. If you like the mac and cheese at Slows you will probally be dissapointed here. It is not bad, It is not baked and as complex as the mac at Slows. My wife actually prefers the mac here at Smokey Rhodes over Slows, but then again she prefers Kraft out of the box over Slows.At this time they have only one BBQ Sauce that is very good, but I have gotten used to having multiple sauces to choose from. We decided to get a carry out to take some to my parents to sample and ended up choosing the Pulled Pork/Brisket Combo, WOW talk about a surprise, Both of these meats were great. The brisket is just as good as Slows in my opinion, and I actually think thier pulled pork is a little better than slows. I think I will be back soon, great BBQ and very friendly owners that came out to make sure everything was up to our expectations.
