shoulda known better: grand central oyster bar

it's my fault. i planned a fun day with my kid and the end of it - a grand seafood pigout - was dinner at the grand central oyster bar. i adore grand central - and for a kid in nyc, it's so beautiful and true to the spirit of the city...people bustling around; trains; markets; announcements; etc. and last summer my kid and i shared a happy 'first lobster of summer' there so back we went. YUCK. first, there were no steamers (after we were told there were) so i asked about the quality of the mussels. was told they were sweet. they were dry and mealy and the steaming liquid was just water with some onions thrown on top. ugh. then we ordered 1/2doz oysters - the shuckers really shattered them because each of them had lots of split shell in them. my husband ordered the halibut with horseradish crust - it was dry and overcooked. i made sure to order my (underseasoned) new england clam chowder very hot - which it was. and my daughter's lobster came - they claimed 1.75lbs but i absolutely don't believe it. everyone was nice - but that was $125 of sad seafood. :(
