Shibucho in Costa Mesa (review)

I followed a number of recommendations and went to:

Shibucho
590 W. 17th Street
Costa Mesa

What a find in this very unassuming neighborhood (mine in fact). The atmosphere might be a bit intimidating to some as the operative language is definately Japanese. We were warmly received and managed to have a terric meal even without perfect communication. We found the chef to be a real artist providing beauty for both the eye and palate. Every piece of sushi we had was very fresh. We especially enjoyed contrasting the flavor of fresh and salt water eel. Another treat was a scallop, cooked in its shell and then removed, sliced and sauced and made into sushi. Sorry I don't know what it is called. Can't wait to go back. They are open for lunch and dinner Wed. thru Sunday. Our dinner for two very hungry people, four bottles of sake, one of Sapporo was $70. plus tip.
