Shawarma King on Kensington and AMAZING gelato at Calgary Farmer's Market

In the new building that is next to Telstar Drugs on Kensington Rd just east of 14th St NW, The space that used to be America Tile was, on my last jaunt through Kensington, a soon-to-open place called "Shawarma King." My heart leapt; the greatest Ottawa shawarma place opening in Calgary?! Of course the idea that it's the same outfit as Shawarma King in Ottawa would be too much to dream, but it is great to see a Lebanese place opening in Calgary that tells it like it is: It's not about the falafel, it sure as hell isn't about the donair; it's about the SHAWARMA, the best reason to learn some Arabic pleasantries so the burly fella behind the counter gives you a little extra love with your sandwich.

I don't live in Hillhurst so can somebody keep me posted on when this place opens? Thanks!

I recently posted on the gelato explosion in Calgary and must report that TUTTI FRUTTI in the salubrious new Calgary Farmers' Market, the one in Garrison Woods, has spectacular gelati, the best I have had in Calgary. Owners are from Colombia and make a version very much like what I overdosed on on a recent month in Argentina and Uruguay; it's much richer than the somewhat thinner version at Fiasco, and the pistachio in particular is the most pure, decadent one I have had, ever, even better than at Mondo Gelato in Vancouver. My only beefs are that the place is only open on Fri-Sun when the market is open, and that it's pricey as they charge $3 for a small cup but, horrors, they even off the top of the cup- the real gelaterias (or heladerias!) always heap the gelato on the cup so you get this teetering monstosity to dive into even with a small cup. Fiasco does this beautifully. I'll have to discuss this with the folks at Tutti Frutti.
