I lunched at Shake Shack yesterday, and while it was a good experience, it didn't wow me the way I thought it would given the reviews on the board.
I had a Shack Burger (cheeseburger, lettuce, tomato, special sauce), a Chicago dog and cheese fries.
The burger was good, but I didn't think it was the equal of a burger joint burger. The Chicago dog was not a Chicago dog -- although they had the glow-in-the-dark relish, the pickle spears and the little hot peppers, they also added lettuce, and they weren't as careful with the proportions as I'm used to in Chicago -- and it was impossible to really taste the hotdog beneath the topings. The cheese fries (made with "wiz") were fine.
Don't get me wrong: it was 70 degrees, I was eating outside in a lovely park having just dragged my 5-year-old out of the Mad. Sq. playground, and I was eating the best hamburger I've ever had from a "shack." We had a good time, and as a neighborhood resident, I definitely will be back. But for me, the food just did not live up to the hype created by some on this board.
