SF to Sonoma Report

Armed with pages of printouts from CH, we had extremely ambitious plans to make it north to Jenner, Healdsburg and south through Sonoma Valley...quickly became apparent that this would be too much time in the car.

Left SF in the AM and took route #1 along the shore through Muir Woods and Muir Beach...spectacular views along the way.

Drove as far north as Point Reyes Natl Seashore. Found a great little spot in the road out to Point Reyes..Johnson's Drake's Bay Oysters..primarily a seafood market and oyster farm; but the owner was happy to open some oysters for us..made for a nice lunch along with some local made cheeses (Pt Reyes Blue and a Humboldt Fog goat) and smoked salmon.

Probably the best tasting oysters I've had..and I've eaten a lot of oysters.

From there, we cut east on Pt Reyes/Petauluma Petaluma and north to Santa Rosa...down 12 through Sonoma..

Beautiful countryside..we hit a few wineries...Arrowood, Ledson, Loxton, and Imagery. We stayed at the Gaige House Inn in Glen recommended...very nice wine and hors douvres served in the late afternoon by the fireplace in a formal sitting room. We had planned on Girl and Fig in Sonoma..but decided to just walk to the Fig Cafe in Glen Ellen..10 min walk. Fun, casual spot. We sat at the bar overlooking the kitchen...simple but everything was well prepared..just what we wanted after a long day.

Gaige House provides a beautiful breakfast..fresh squeezed juice, coffee, cous cous, currants, slivered almonds and heavy cream..followed by poached eggs over fresh crab..with homemade biscuits. Breakfast changes daily but I'm sure they're all of similar quality.

Enjoyed the coast and Sonoma; and our only mistake was not allowing ourselves enough time to fully enjoy it. Didn't get to do everything we had hoped to do, but enjoyed everything we did do.
