SF foodies seek special, inexpensive NY experiences

My girlfriend and I will be visiting New York starting Thursday, and we'd love some restaurant recommendations. We're staying on the Upper West Side, and although we're hoping to make at least a quick trip to parts of Brooklyn, we're not interested in places in the other boroughs. (Maybe next time!)

We're most interested in places that are a) somewhat unique to New York and/or aren't found in San Francisco and b) cost under, say, $60-$80 for two. We have a reservation at Lupa one night.

We *aren't* particularly interested in:
- Chinese
- Indian
- Thai
- Mexican and other Latin/Central American
- American (except for Southern)

We *are* particularly interested in...
- Jewish/deli
- hot dogs
- pizza (what's the best in Manhattan?)
- Caribbean
- any only-in-New-York specialties

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!
