Last night we tried Re Sette - a new Italian restaurant on 45th St between 5th and 6th Aves. Our party of 4 enjoyed it very much. Overall I'd give Re Sette an 8 out of 10. Here's the lowdown:
Staff here is really excellent and understands good service. This always "makes" the experience for us. everyone is great from the hostess, to bartenders to wait staff - quick service - & lots of personal attention. Coats are taken quickly, warm bread and olives are brought over to bar with drinks. our reservation was for 8:00 but we lingered in bar for 30 minutes drinking - no one stressed. and I'm a hard-ass when it comes to service!
Atmosphere is very nice, elegant setting (a tad tacky, but it works) - good music (Dean Martin thrown in with classic style). We had a large booth - lots of room.
We all enjoyed our food. Not on Babbo scale, but definitely very good. We started with Misto salad $8 and great! Lobster salad $18 - lots of lobster, pistachios and beets seemed like odd mix but worked very nice. Polenta with sausage was a table fav as was the baked prosuitto wrapped fresh mozzarella (both in $10 range). Entrees... filet mignon special was delish and HUGE, I especially liked my Chilean sea bass with topped with a grilled portabella and laid onto a mixed lentil concoction, with a little pile of deep fried leeks (like delicate onion rings), the table fav though was the grilled snapper done with fresh avocados and tomatoes. Homemade fettuccini with shrimp and scallops was disappointing (pasta was good but scallops over done and not too tasty). finished with tiramisu (good, but I just can't get into this desert) pistachio gelato on the other hand was very nice. good wine selection. Peroni for $6 a bottle - not bad.
so overall - food was very good - not 4 star, but service and atmosphere combined makes this place a "recommended" - I'd definitely go back (if I could not get a reservation at a top choice)
