First Senegalese

I had Senegalese food for the first time (hopefully of many) for lunch today. At Africa Restaurant #2, on 53rd St. between 8th and 9th Aves. I would recommend this restaurant very highly -- I don't know enough about the cuisine to say how it stands up to other West African places in the city; but the food I had was most satisfactory, and service was friendly. I ate Mafe, which is lamb stew with peanut butter, and drank Ginger Beer. The Mafe is delicious -- everything cooked to just the right combination of tenderness and falling apart, rich, deep flavor. The Ginger Beer (homemade) was a little surprising -- I was expecting something like the Jamaican ginger beers I have tried; but this was fruity, with less of a spicy kick and a more complex flavor.
