This place is like a minimini Chelsea market in Tribeca ( see photo). In the back is a small bar,(very small).WIth cool cocktails and nice bar staff. You will notice 2 or 3 tables to sit and eat. They have a blackboard menu that changes daily.
In a few weeks they will open the basement up for tasting menu dinners by reservation only. At present you can sample the tasting menu upstairs. You must make a reservation for that too. The space is very limited. When the basement opens , I think this "secret" place will be awesome. The chef is quite creative. The ingredients fresh and of high quality. Although they have an Orwasher's booth in location, the restaurant bakes its own bread. The bread is excellent.
So, I sampled the 5 course tasting menu ( maybe 6 courses lol).
They do not tell you what they will bring out, and that will continue when they open the basement restaurant. There are no changes or substituions ( unless you have allergies). There are no choices. You don't know what they are serving until it is cooked and served. No advance notice. No printed menu.
So, here's what I had, and pardon my weak descriptions. I didnt take notes nor pay close attention to all of the ingredients. I just ate and loved it. The first course was a foie crusted in a crisp dough, like a spring roll topped with uni. It was quite good.
Next was a red salad, consisting of beets, red cabbage, red radish and pomegranate. Very refreshing and tasty.
Next was a slow cooked amazing octopus dish. Really wonderful.
This was followed by a silver dori fish over a basil cavatelli. The dish was well thought out and cooked well, but was too salty. The chef realized it was too salty and apologized for that. Hey, we all mess up a little sometimes.
He made up for it with the next dish, which was pork belly topped with marinated white achovies. Wild combination that worked well.
For dessert it was a parfait with some sorbet, very nice presentation ( see photo) and very nice ending to an excellent meal.
I think in a few weeks when they open, they will really be ready for action. I think the place will be a place everyone will want to try their creative tasting menu.
