Anyone who is looking for an oasis in the usual desert of SGV dining should hot-foot it to Hamilton's, a bar/restaurant attached to the Covina Radisson, just off the 10 on Holt. It offers a(usually) quiet bar (jazz on Fri-Sat evenings) and excellent steaks in old-fashioned (think early 70s crossed with gentleman's Victorian) surroundings.
We have been going to the place for several years, and seen the hotel pass from the Embassy Suites to the Radisson, and the restaurant/bar from Blakes (a downer!) to the present, year-old Hamiltons. The new owners serve only Prime USA steaks in the restaurant (reasonable prices: $24 - $36), as well as a couple of chicken/fish alternatives for non-beefers (veggies must go elsewhere!). The steaks have terrific flavour and texture - a wonder in the SGV, and competition for better-known places in greater LA.
As for the bar - it is a large, separate room, with a retro tin ceiling, mahognay shelving and an impressive belly-up bar with brass fittings (seats available) and many tables. The cocktails are varied and well-made, but the bar snacks are the thing. Freshly- made crab cakes, buffalo wings, shrimp cocktail and sliders (3) are among the appetizers ($7-11), but all half-price at Happy Hour on Mon-Fri, from 4:30-7pm (the well-drinks are $3!). They are incredible value, and the portions are generous. There are also a good range of salads and yummy steak sandwiches, hamburgers and rueben's, though these aren't included in the Happy Hour discounts.
