Maybe not so secret since I found it on Yelp and the address is listed on their website... but an interesting new restaurant in the middle of Little Italy serving Neapolitan-style pizza.
It's at 180 Hester on the second floor. The entrance is rather speakeasy-like; you get there by taking an elevator just inside the doorway next to another Italian restaurant. Inside, the ambiance is casual and cafe-like with windows onto Mulberry Street. It was baking inside when I went for dinner tonight, so hopefully they'll get AC sorted out before summer is over. The restaurant was only half full while we were there.
I had the prosciutto salad and margherita pizza. I liked the pizza, although I'm no pizza aficionado. The toppings were good, although the crust was maybe a tad too bready for me with not quite enough bounce to it. Personally, I like the crust at Motorino or Sottocasa better.
They have wines by the glass and bottles, as well as an interesting beer selection.
Overall it was a nice experience - while maybe not the best Neapolitan-style pizza in the city, they make a solid pie, and how exciting is it that a new restaurant opened in Little Italy proper that isn't a red sauce joint? I'm thinking this is a great choice to take visitors who insist on eating in Little Italy (which I've seen more than one thread about here on CH!)
