SEA: Szechuan Seven Stars Peppers

Hello. Following up on the high recommendations of this restaurant, I would like to report some things.

First trip we ordered a whole crab which was wonderful and some fresh greens which the waitress suggested. The greens were outstanding, and I liked how they were cooked with little tiny peppercorn things. Good experience overall.

We tried again this last week and it was most disappointing. Seeing how they specialize in "hot pot" we ordered one of those, the most expensive choice which encompasses as much variety as possible, I think it was $12.95 per person. We also ordered a side of stir-fried greens.

The hot pot was split into two sections. One section was "spicy" liquid and one was not spicy. We got two large platters of stuff to cook in the hot pot, such as sliced beef, veg, some fish. As we cooked those things, they came out greasy, oily, really undesirable. What kind of soup base are they using? Overall this felt like a grease festival, I was really disappointed. My wife felt the same way. My daughter just fell asleep at the table after a few bites, as if she was annoyed as well. To make matters worse, the green beans had sort of brown ends indicating lack of freshness, and they were greasy as well. Perhaps I just have a peculiar lack of enjoyment for greasy hot pots, or I got a bad batch, or what I'm not sure. FYI.
