Schiller's--why all the hype?

Decided to go out to Schiller's last night because I'd heard that they made good drinks and thought it might be a more sedate crowd than other bars. My bigger mistake was deciding to eat dinner at Schiller's. I'd read posts about the mediocre food but because I was too hungry to think of anywhere else to go and it was too cold to wander around to find better food, I settled on food and drinks at Schiller's.
Got there around 9:00 and was told there was a 1 hour wait. It ended up being over an hour and a half, and my boyfriend and I were squeezed between the bar patrons and the people eating at the tables the whole time. The drinks (a special whiskey sour for the bf, and a bellini for me) were indeed good, but didn't make up for standing in such close quarters.
You'd think that w/a wait like that, the food might be fabulous, but it wasn't. Fries ordered as an appetizer (we were STARVING at this point) were dry and tasted like they'd been sitting around forever and then reheated. Special fish (tuna) entree was eh. The chocolate cream pie had a tasteless, mealy crust. I just don't get why people would wait that long for that?
Maybe it would be worth it to go to Schillers later in the evening (it seemed to clear out a bit from the dinner crowd around 11:30 12), but don't make the same mistake as I did and go early for the food...
