As a Scandinavian-American trying to rediscover his Swedish roots, I have developed an interest in Swedish cuisine. Now before you laugh (I realize that Swedes aren't particularly known for their outstanding culinary contributions), there are some things worth savoring in Scandinavian cooking. Any of you who visited Gustaf Anders in its heyday can attest to the fact that Swedes can (and do) make fine meals (Gustaf Anders, while in business, offered a legendary smorgasbord, hearty kollops, janson's temptation, wonderful breads, fantastic aquavit)..
However, there seems to be an absolute dearth of choices for one seeking ANY type of Scandinavian cuisine in the Greater Los Angeles area these days. I know of but a couple.. Nordic Fox in Downey (have yet to go.. any reviews?).. and yes, Ikea's meatball intensive cafeteria (sigh).
Are there no other Swedish and/or Scandinavian (Norwegian, Finnish, Danish, Icelandic?!) restaurants in the LA area? How about Orange County? Points North (been to Kingsburg, if any of you thought about recommending that.. pretty unimpressed)?
If you can steer this frustrated Swede in the right direction, I'd be very grateful.. Thanks in advance for any and all help..
