Being that this was our first visit to Savona,100 Old Gulph Rd., Gulph Mills, PA --I would of waited for a second visit before giving my opinion but I don't think we will be going back.
My husband and I received two gift cer. as presents for this restaurant and were very excited about going.
We had heard it was very hard to get reservations but to my suprise when I called last Sat. afternoon they had several openings for that night so we pick one.
I guess i'll start with the service--from the women who took our reservations almost to the end of our meal the service was excellent. Now for the food--for our First course my husband order the pasta purses(he had heard another waiter suggest them to his customers)the pasta purses were stuffed with shrimp and scallops
and we both thought they were very good their cost was $12.00. My first course was the crab cakes $14.00 a real disapointment--no and I mean NO lump meat crab IN IT AT ALL --when you cut into them it was like brown filling more like deviled crab, not at all as discribed on the menu a real disapointment for an upsale restaurant. We both had specials of the day for our main courses--My husband had the striped bass filet with five mushrooms in a port wine sauce for $29.00 this came with no side dishes but was very good. I had the whole dover sole grilled which came with a wonderful sauce but we both felt that the sole was overcooked which made it quite dry. The sole was $39.00 and it came with no side dishes. They offered 5 choices of bread but the breads(and we sampled all of them ) weren"t that good. For dessert I had the chocolate souffle I must say it was heavenly. My husband had a sample of four desserts which looked like little works of art but just tasted okay. All dessert are $10.00 each. My husband said the coffee was very good. Their was a $6.00 charge for bottled water. Our bill came to $130.36 before the tip. I could tell that our waiter was not very happy that we didn't order wine even though our bill was $130 for the two of us--that was the only flaw in the excellent service. But we were disappointed in the food--we had heard that the owners Evan Lambert and Andrew Feinstein are opening another restaurant and maybe their attention is not on Savona.
