Savannah/Hilton Head

Just got back and found some interesting eats. As lots of folks on this board know, The Lady and Sons in Savannah is stellar. We had great hoecakes, fried oysters, flash fried collards and perfect sweettea (that's one-word). We had a blah meal at City Market Cafe and would not recommend it. Definitely loved the Crab Shack on Tybee Island. The restaurant is on a marsh, has lots of tables outside and all steamed seafood. Had breakfast at the Express Cafe--pretty good bagels and eggs. Never found a great breakfast place however.

I grew up on Hilton Head and try to avoid eating out anywhere on the island. Restaurants are crowded and overpriced. But, I could not avoid a couple of meals out this time. Went to the Santa Fe Cafe and found it to be okay, but very overpriced. I have always liked the much more casual Market Street Deli in Coligny Plaza. They have sandwiches with some Greek dishes. I suggest making a trip to the old Piggly Wiggly in Coligny Plaza and picking up some of the freshest seafood you can buy. This is a family run store that has been around for 30-plus years (that's a miracle for Hilton Head). It is not a fancy store like the new Publix, but it is clean and offers local produce and seafood.
