I just wanted to let everyone in Central Kansas know that the annual MCC sale is this Friday and Saturday.
If you've never been to the MCC sale, you really ought to come out. This is an annual fundraiser for the Mennonite churches to raise money for foreign and domestic emergency aid. As nice as it is to help a great cause, the main reason for you to go is the FOOD! In addition to a quilt auction, a general auction, and the sale of arts and crafts, there are dozens upon dozens of tasty old-school German and Russian treats to be found including:
Verineke (cottage chese dumplings with ham gravy, usually served with sausage).
New Year's Cookies (rasin donut-whole like balls of goodness with a sugary glaze).
Pancake feed Saturday Morning
Russian pancakes (kiind of like crepes, but different).
Pie (any type imaginable, and some that go beyond the imagination - like sour cream and rasin and "shoo-fly pie" - a.k.a., molassas pie).
BBQ chicken lunch on Saturday (buy your chicken by the quarter or half!)
And that doesn't even include the goodies made by different churches that are for sale to take home - noodles, pies, cakes, rolls - all homemade.
The event is at the Kansas State Fairgrounds in Hutchinson, Kansas. Admittance is free, so the only damage to your wallet will be whatever you buy. For more info, go to their website: http://kansas.mccslae.org
