Satchmos in Collegeville - good stuff

Looking for something a bit different from the standard sandwich fare I decided to give Satchmos a shot. The owners that own the French Quarter Bistro in Royersford also own Satchmos, so there is a bit of a Cajun flair to their menu.

My dinner began with chicken and andouille gumbo which was very flavorful and had a nice kick to it. I haven't been to FQB in quite some time, but I suspect it's the same gumbo that is served there.

I also had a small order of chicken wings. The sauces offered are standard buffalo, honey bbq and voodoo. The wings were very tasty, of substantial size and the sauce was quite good.

My sandwich choice was the popcorn crawfish po'boy with voodoo sauce. It was served on a nice 10" hoagie roll with sour cream and cajun mustard. This sandwich is not for those that don't like spice as I quickly found myself grabbing a glass of milk to cool down my mouth, The sandwich was very flavorful and the popcorn crawfish was fried just right.

My only complain was the french fries as they are the "batter dipped" fries, which I am personally not a fan of. I'm not sure when this batter dipped fries movement started, but I wish it never did. It seems that finding good "real" french fries is becoming a serious challenge.

Overall I really enjoyed the food and I hope that Satchmos survives. It's location right on Main Street with no parking lot may prove to be a serious challenge to their survival.
