Santa Fe Grill, Cold Spring--ugh!

Too bad about this place. Nice location, outdoor seating, friendly bar, pleasant service, awful food. I had ribs with rice and steamed veggies on the side. Ribs were not overly fatty (though not lean either) but mostly flavorless, despite the gloppy sauce (bottled hoisin, perhaps?). The rice and veg, OTOH, tasted like old-fashioned boil-in-the-bag Stouffer's. My escort had a "blackened" chicken breast, which was actually flattened, grilled, and dusted with spices. It was all right, but nothing I couldn't have made at home after a long day at work. His mashed potato side was velvety smooth in a suspicious sort of way. Strangely, the appetizer salads were outstanding! Very fresh mesclun, romaine, and the usual salad sprinkles--peppers, olive, tomato--but they set us up for a big fall. Sigh. Maybe the place will fail miserably and someone who knows how to cook will reopen on the spot (corner of Main (301) and Rt. 9D in Cold Spring, if you care to waste your money....}
