San Diego: Nugent's Fishgriller

Nugent's Fishgriller Restaurant and fish market is located at Scripps Poway Parkway and I-15. (Just east of I-15 beyond the Chili's but before the Residence Inn.) This place has been open a few weeks and we thought we'd give it a try. We began the Boston clam chowder. It was clearly homemade with lots of soft, not chewy clams. It needed a bit of salt and pepper. For the main course we had the Crab cakes supreme (around $23) They were good, with tasty fresh crab but for the price I though they were a bit small. They were almost as good as the ones at Oceanaire Seafood in downtown San Diego. They came with cole slaw and seasoned fries-- both were good. The bring a couple of different sauces to the table. The tartar sauce had so much dill that it was the only taste I could get out of it. The tomato-horseradish sauce was good. We brought a bottle of Sauv. Blanc from Australia. The stemware needs improvement. It's the clunk old Libby glasses that were common a decade ago in restaurants. The seafood market look like very good quality with medium to medium high prices. Overall- a B or B+. I'd go back but for other items.
