A Salsa Negra question vis a vis La Pasadita

As mentioned before I have never been offered salsa negra at a La Pasadita. Be that as it may, is this salsa the classic(as seen on Rick Bayless or, perhaps, Martha Stewart)sauce of brown jalapenos fried black in a ton of oil? Or, is it something else entirely? Regardless, the fearless explorers report that La Pasadita's version is inferior; at least today. Is anyone familiar with the salsa negra of which I speak? Where may I find this mysterious, ebon concoction promising both chipotle heat and smoke, but also an elusive other sans the canned adobo?
