T Salon & Emporium - 20th St near B'dway

Came down from CT for for afternoon tea at T-Salon and thought others would want to hear about my experience. (Afternoon tea seems really picking up around town. Any other tea experiences from anyone?)

SUMMARY: If you go, order from the lunch menu. Don't get conned by the 'afternoon tea' set.

I'll pay top dollar for high quality but at $31/per person ($75+ with tax & tip), this afternoon tea was a total rip off.

The tea and food quality is good, not terrific. Nice selection of teas served well - right temperature, not over steeped.

The food is nothing special at all. A couple of simple finger sandwiches, and some scones w/ devon cream, cookies, etc. Some fruit was served next to the cookies, which made them soggy, especially the tuiles. A few peanuts was tossed onto the fruit which was strange and made it look cheap. Also, when we walked in, we saw the etagieres (sp?) pre-loaded with food on the service counter, which made the experience seem cheaper. If you're going to stage the food, don't let me see it at that price!

The place is pretty but was busy and a bit cramped, and I felt rushed.

I would have been satisfied had I spent $25-30. Again, at $75, it was outrageous. For that kind of money for afternoon tea, I ought to be in a gorgeous dining room at the Plaza listening to a live string quartet, eating incredible food off of vintage china.

The kick to my gut: the deuce next to us ordered two pots of tea, and they had a nice salmon salad and some scones and cream. Their check was $28 for basically the same meal!!
