T Restaurant opened last Tuesday where the Red Raven used to be on Congress St.
Checked it out with some friends on Thursday. The new owners completely redid the place - it's now white and a bit too bright, but otherwise very pleasant.
Short menu - several salads; maybe 1/2 doz. appetizers and about the same # of main courses. Striving for an American bistro concept. Full bar with, sorry to say, a small tv over one corner. Thankfully, the sound was off. Serving only one red/one white wine by the glass, but wines by the bottle.
We all stuck with salads and fish/seafood, though IIRC there is beef (steak?) and chicken on the menu, too. Possibly even a pasta dish.And am totally blanking on the apps.
Caesar salad was reportedly a good version. The spinach salad - spinach, roasted red peppers, sliced onions and alleged walnuts with choice of dressing - vinaigrette reportedly good; I had a creamy cheese dressing with a lighter than ranch dressing consistency, so it didn't overwhelm the spinach.
Pan sauteed swordfish was delicious, if a little heavy on the oil. Don't rememeber what the accompaniments were. Nice portion. I had scallops drizzled with a curry sauce (Thai flavor) and served with fried watercress, both of which were great, although the watercress was a little oily. It also came with potato, which I opted not to have.
They're not serving dessert, but give you a plate of cookies which my companions all enjoyed (I'm not big on cookies).
Our waitress was a little eccentric; kept explaining how "chef" did this or that and how we should order, as though this was our first time in a restaurant.
Aside from that, it was a delightful evening.
Will defintely be back; it's great to have somplace different,good and reasonably priced in this dining wasteland.
