I'm coming back to San Diego for a short weekend before promptly returning to Shanghai, People's Republic of China. Considering that I am on a Chinese local budget (in RMB) and that it is very difficult to get an excellent salad (no iceberg lettuce) or sandwich in Shanghai, where should I go to get my fill in San Diego? It has been about a year since I've been on the San Diego scene so I hope some local SD Chowhounders will be able to help me out (and others in San Diego on a strict budget). Seeing that "the best sandwich in Shanghai" runs at US$10 / 68RMB, I would say under US$10 range or under US$15 if the salad is really THAT good. Extra points for a good tuna melt with an even balance of bread, tuna salad, and light on the cheese (but the cheese should be quality) or suggestions with properly ripe avocado. Thanks!
