last saturday i went to try Little Saigon, a restaurant right next to marina food in san mateo. i thought it was foster city, but yahoo disagrees.
anyway, i am not a huge fan of Saigon City in downtown San Mateo, and i was pleased with Little Saigon.
we shared fresh spring rolls. they were very fresh, and had a good balance of ingredients. that is, not all rice noodle and no shrimp/pork/lettuce. good peanut sauce as well.
I had the grilled chicken bun (vermicelli bowl thing), and it was delicious. lots of tender, flavorful chicken and fresh lettuce/herbs.
my friend had a bowl of pho with various cuts/parts of beef. he liked it very much. he aslo had an avocado "smoothie" (really more like a milkshake) which was really rich and good.
it was about $20 before tip for the above plus one diet coke.
decor is minimal, but it is pleasant and clean. service was really fast on food, slow on drinks.
i would rank little saigon above saigon city (which i've been to twice and i'm not too excited about returning to) and a bit below PPQ in the sunset.
