I just don't get it...from soup to nuts, I couldn't explain why Sahara/Coney Island Avenue, such a huge & popular palace has gone to seed...perhaps overexpansion did it, or am I just not on the "preferred" diners list, but there was nothing much aside from the pleasant servers that could warrant a return visit...
A mixed appetizer platter was so ordinary, and included tired eggplant and jarred chopped up pimiento-stuffed olives - for goodness sakes, aren't there enough Kalamatas out there?...Sorry, folks, but the stale-fried calamari wasn't worth its 3x-three-dollar-bill and would've even been out of place at Denny's...and a mixed grill had a singular lamb chop (decent - but the menu plugs "chops"-plural), oddly marinated shish-kebab pieces and gyro meat that could've been more complexily herbed and spiced.
If you're non-Atkins, FYI, the fries, rice, Turkish beer and hot bread all went down easy.
I used to admire the Sahara...now what?
