We went to Saffron tonight for the first time. It will not be the last time. This was one of the best meals we have had in months. We stuck to the restaurant week menu and were not disappointed.
The fatush salad was fresh and bright. The sumac is a wonderful "sour" spice and the mint in the greens was a perfect complement.
I had the salmon, prepared very rare, which I like. It was unadorned, but the chickpeas it sat on had a wonderful cumin tomato sauce.
My DH had the lamb. I was not able to try it....he would not share! He said it was fabulous and it was served with a farro side--my new favorite grain. The portion was smaller than the salmon, though neither of us left hungry by any stretch.
The cheese plate was an interesting dessert with some of the most amazing goat cheese I have ever had and the chocolate ganache was so rich I,who has no trouble with rich, could not quite finish my piece. The caramel and salted caramel ice cream were also exceptional.
My husband had the optional wine match with his meal. He thought each wine was a great choice for the flavors and, though not huge pours, a perfectly good value for the $15 additional.
Service was impeccable, the space wonderful and over all, I just cannot say enough good about our dinner. We will be back (when we can afford it) to try some of the fabulous looking and sounding regular menu items.
Thanks to all the chowhounds talking up this place. We should have gone ages ago.
