OK, Mike R's got me going now.
We went to both Crave and Royals, Friday and Saturday night. Crave was the most succesful. To be perfectly honest, I'm a big fan of Crave. The appetizers (leak spring rolls and salt cod fritters) were really good. (In fact, I was dreaming about the fritters last night, they were that good.) The mains were OK, trout was ok, pork was pretty tough, not that great. Desserts (chocolate chilli cake and creme brulet with mango sorbet) were awesome. Service was great.
Royals Downtown was a mess. They gave us both a RW menu and the regular menu and seemed pretty clueless about RW. (Marion M, ya out there?? What did you think?) The RW menu was really limited and when I asked about any upgrades, that was completely denied.
The place was only half full when we left at 9pm. My GF ordered the RW menu and I ordered off cause I've been curious about this place. My crab cake salad (off menu) was the only decent plate of the night. My GF thought her wild mushroom with penne was ok, my supposedly "Bershire Pork" (what's with all this pork for RW week??) with some kind of potato underneath turned into a gloppy mess that I couldn't finish. Desserts were really bad. Service was all right, but at this price point I can do WAY better in the area and probably in Manhattan.
Anybody, besides FLEUR at Tempo, have a better experience? I'm, quite frankly, pretty disappointed.
