I've complained in previous threads about what I considered to be a horrificly loathsome injustice perpetuated by Perry's deli downtown (I know he is out of the business now), which is/was his "Russian" dressing which was nothing more than miracle whip and a hint of ketchup and relish. Ruined many a visit for me there when cajoled by colleagues into dining there for lunch.
Well yesterday I tried the Russian dressing (on the side of a sammy) at Ashkenaz deli on Elm street, and by God let me tell you that this is the way it should be done! Creamy and crunchy, real mayo, freshly chopped veggies (I think including some red beets!), absolutely delicious and a very refreshing contrast to the savory side of the sammy.
If you haven't tried Ashkenaz, you should, and get the Russian on the side so you can see what I'm gushing about...
