I am madly in love with the Harbord bakery (in Toronto, Ontario) Rum and Plum cake that is only sold around Nov/Dec. The bakery specializes in Jewish/Eastern European goods, so it may be from the same culture. I have tried without success to replicate the recipe at home - does anyone have a recipe that produces a good result? The best thing about the cake is that it's very dense, and very rich and moist (almost wet) and tastes heavily of prunes. It is almost black in colour, and has nothing to do with traditional Christmas fruitcake. I hate candied fruit, so that kind of cake is not what I am looking for.
