Went to Royal Orchid Thai over the weekend with hubby. We arrived at about 2:30 for lunch and if you come at this in between hour, be warned that the service can be SLOW! One person walked out while waiting to be seated. However, hubby and I persevered and got a table.
The menu is quite daunting, there are several pages of text, but some dishes seem to repeat themselves, i.e. spicy chicken becomes spicy beef. We both decided on a half and half plate. You can get a half plate of either basil or vegetable rice (basil rice is extra) and then half an entree of a list of about 8. We both decided on basil rice. I had the spicy chicken and hubby had the pickle chili.
Mine was the better dish, good spicy hot flavor with a generous helping of kaffir lime for that nice sour tang. This sauce reminded me of tom yum kai soup that had been reduced, the flavors were very intense. Quite delicious and just the right amount of heat. The basil fried rice was fantastic! Both hubby and I agreed that the rice was light and fluffy with great basil flavor. Perfect with the spicy entree.
We weren't quite sure what to make of hubby's dish. Nothing tasted "pickled" and there were no pickles to be seen. It was chicken with a thin brown sauce with some vegetables, not bad but not great. Next time, hubby will probably get something else. All the noodle dishes sounded really good and after tasting my spicy chicken, I am excited to try other dishes here.
Thanks for the suggestions everyone! I think I will try B&K Kitchen soon.
