In my quest for the BEST buffet in town (www.chowhound.com/topics/402608 )--noting that I couldn't get a reservation @ Rosemary's--a few of you LV hounds advised that I eat @ the bar sans reservation. That, coupled with a tweaking of plans and checking OpenTable for availability, morphed into lunching @ R's!
So for those of you who've never been, Rosemary's is in the strip mall in btwn The Strip & Summerlin, w/parking aplenty! From the outside, it's a regular non-descript restaurant. But when you get closer, there's a BUNCH of stickers saying that it's Z-ranked, on this Top 10 list and on that Favorite list & so on. We had lunch reservations (dinner resv weren't available); after a couple minute wait w/menus, we were seated promptly. The hostess placed the white napkins on our laps...for me, she placed a black napkin on my lap to match my black slacks (possibly to avoid the white lint that might be more comforable on me than the napkin). How thoughtful!
So what did I have, you wonder? There were four of us: me, Mr OCAnn, Papa OCAnn & Mama OCAnn. Each of us selected an entree; Mr & I picked the appetizers & desserts. So all of us had a three-course prix fixe for $25 each! (Had I had my printer, I would have been able to save $5/person, for a prix fixe meal of $20 each.) For appetizers we ordered two each of the HUGO'S TEXAS BBQ SHRIMP served w/Maytag Blue Cheese Slaw and DRY AGED BEEF CARPACCIO w/Maytag Blue Cheese w/Arugula. The men LOVED the shrimp...nice and BBQ-ey; I think they enjoyed the robustness of the flavour paired w/the blue cheese. The women enjoyed our beef carpaccio, which was melt-in-your-mouth, toe-curling deliciousness. However--and this is just me--I didn't care for the bleu cheese pairing. I thought the carpaccio would've been better on its own, not hiding behind the strong flavour of the cheese. But, again, that's just me. We all sampled other's plates throughout the meal. And I'd order the carpaccio again...even w/the bleu cheese. It was THAT good!
For the entrees, we had the GRILLED KING SALMON, the CRISPY DUCK LEG CONFIT, the SOY MARINATED BISTYRO FILET KABOBS, and the EGGPLANT PACKAGE. The salmon was perfect. Even Papa OCAnn said so; and he's not easily pleased. The only downfall to the salmon was its size; he said it was too small (the size appeared perfect to the rest of us) and that it wasn't AYCE. So he's a quantity over quality kinda guy; and though he grumbled through his meal about the size, he did keep saying how it's the best salmon in Las Vegas. Hubby enjoyed his duck; it was KFC crispy w/o the grease served w/saucy lentils. I love lentils. And fortunately, he shared them w/me. They were some gooooooood lentils. The lovely woman to my left had the "fresh mozzarella & slow roasted tomato stuffed eggplant 'packages' with roasted red bell peppers, green olive relish & a smoked tomato butter sauce." She loved the stacked vegetables topped w/cheese tinged w/the savoury olive relish. She wants to come back just to eat it again. I liked it too. It was originally going to be MY order until she spoke up first. So I had the kabobs. And those kabobs were DANG good. Tender. Savoury. Mmmmmm.
We had little room for dessert, but we had some anyway: Chocolate Flourless Cake, Coconut Bread Pudding, Lemon Ice Box Pie & Carrot Cake. Each of these were served w/a scoop of ice cream or sorbet. And the winner of the bunch was the bread pudding!
So what do I think of ROSEMARY'S? It's an absolutely GREAT neighbouhood restaurant. I'm not sure if I'd go there every time I'm in town; but it's surely one that I'd consider a special occasion place...and one that tops as Mama OCAnn's favourite. And she's very thankful (as am I) to find such a gem just a couple offramps from her adobe abode.
Again, thanks to kjs, Jase & Debbie W on the 411 & encouragement to sit @ the bar. The more I thought about it, the more I wanted to go...and so I deep sixed The Spice Market buffet plans...and I have no regrets! After meal, tax & tip, it was $130.
