Our final meal in the Wine Country was at Cafe la Haye in Sonoma. We had a five thirty reservation and we were running late, so I called from the Family Winery to ask for a 6:00 reservation. The hostess informed me that if I wasn't there by six I might not get in. We were about twenty minutes away. Bottom line: they run a tight ship here!
Well, we made it and were seated immediatley. The place is very small with the kitchen being open, so you can see what's going on in there. The restaurant is bi-level and very nice.
I started with the house smoked salmon, potato-scallion pancake, with fennel * preserved lemon with creme fraiche. A glass of the JCCellars 'Rodney Vineyard" Viognier went well with the app.
For our entree, my husband and I shared the flat iron pot roast with apple-horseradish compote & walnut mashed potatoes. It was very good. A glass of 01 "Gary Farrell Russian River Valley" Pinot Noir paired nicely with this entree.
Service was very good and attentive. For dessert we shared the lemon cheesecake with raspberry sauce which was delicious. It was the perfect ending to two perfect days in the CA Wine Country.
I would highly recommend Cafe La Haye to anyone in Sonoma, just don't be late for your reservation! ***kim***
