Having spent most of July in Salinas, I was delighted to get a call from SF chowgal, Jen Maiser, that she was passing though and could I recommend a place for a coffee break. Not being up on the cafes in town, I just directed her to Oldtown and said we'd find something nearby. When I arrived, she'd already scoped out our choices and we settled on Rollick's because it felt more serious about the beans.
I had Mexican hot chocolate which had a whisper of some sweet spices and a foamy body. The whipped cream is handmade. The pastry case has only a few things to choose from by afternoon, but they mostly looked good. We tried a cakey brownie, in the shape of a mini-muffin, that was a little on the dry side, but certainly worth 35¢.
There was a big bank of computer along the back part of the shop. We didn't know it at the time, but the website shows that they host LAN parties. WiFi using your own laptop is free with purchase.
