Ok, so I take some friends to a restaurant that I've been raving about for months, no names, but our party of three becomes a party of five when some very unwelcome "guests" drop-in. Party over.
I know any restaurant, 5 dollar or 5 star, can have roaches, but if I see a roach or smell insecticide I don't want to go back. It's the same thing with toilets: three strikes for filthy toilets (discounting slob patrons).
Do I have to accept a lesser standard of cleanliness in order to be able to experience NYC's culinary diversity? Not that I think it's a cultural thing: hygiene is as universal as disease is equal opportunity. But some of the best food in NYC is found in areas that are poorer and more run-down.
I know this is a subject better suited to the General Topics board, but I want local views (this board gets more traffic as well).
What's your opinion? We'd like to know.
