Mehgna (Indian cusine)

Astoria

Rave: Their lentil soup is AMAZING!!! It is savoury, complex, but not overwhelming. Perfect for winter weather. It is one of the most memorable soup experiences I've ever had and I think next time I'm going to supersize my order.

Also outstanding was their naan, which was sort of salty, soft, fluffy, and just a little bit chewy. Not buttery.

Good: Mixed grill appetizer was very mixed and generously portioned. The veggie samosas were large, and not very oily looking/tasting. The chicken vindaloo was delicious.

Prices: very reasonable, better than the nearby Gandhi. For example, their tandoori chicken entree is 7.50, but at Gandhi, it is 9.95.

Service: awesome! I think they were really shocked that we wanted to eat in, instead of take-out (which is what most of their business seems to be). But once we sat down, they were very hospitable and seemed eager to make our visit comfortable and pleasant.

Warning: The night that we went, there was no heating in the dining room and we were really cold and shivering. The service was so nice that we felt bad asking about the lack of heat, lol.
