So after having a much-needed Alka-Seltzer, I am ready to post about my restaurant day findings. Don't be too appalled by the quantity of food; we shared a little.
Mesa Grill: Chicken skewers and southwestern potato salad with cilanto. Good, not great. Bobby Flay was outside, which was fun.
Grammercy Tavern: Grilled Vegetables on Foccaccia. The only real disapointment. Not only did I expect a slightly more exotic offering, the bread was very oily -- in fact, we did not finish these. Having said this, GT is still probably my favorite restaurant here. No good on the sidewalk though.
Park Avalon: Shrimp and Crab Salad. A nice seafood salad with good red and yellow cherry tomatoes. I've heard only so-so things about the place, but this was good.
Eleven Madison Park: Pea flan with a Jambon cru of sorts. Best in show. This was outstanding -- pea flavor was intense, complimented by delicate salty ham and great wrinkly black olives and big fresh peas. Good key lime and watermelon juice too (if only it were nice out).
Tabla: Pork salad and a curry potato something-or-other sandwhich. Another winner. The sandwich was really tasty with a pesto-ish sauce, bread was very salty in a good way. Pork salad was almost like ceviche in that it was very acidic with lime, with thin sliced red onions - quite good.
What did everyone else think? Any other standouts? Disapointments?
