My wife and I had lunch at Republic Cafe today in Manchester, NH. I had read lots of good things about it and wanted to give it a try. I'm glad I did. The food was really good and the service excellent. We had a mussel dish for an appetizer and we also got the french fries as an appetizer. They were both very tasty. The french fries were fried with capers and they were really good.
We also ordered entrees. My wife had a fish dish and I had a pasta dish with eggplant meatballs. Both dishes were very tasty as well. I think the fish dish (flounder with risotto and kale and stuffed fennel) was the better of the two. The fish was very fresh, the risotto creamy and rich, and the kale had a little bit of tanginess to it. The pasta dish was also really good. The eggplant meatballs were not oily or greasy and the sauce was nice (not overly salty or overly sweet - it was just right).
Even though we were stuffed (we didn't finish the entrees and packed up food to bring home) we split the german chocolate cake. It was wonderful. I think it was one of the best cakes I've had ever. I don't think I've had a better piece of cake!
Our waitress was really down-to-earth and helpful, and after our meal the manager came over to make sure everything was OK and to ask us how our meal was.
My wife and I were really happy to find such a good restaurant in Manchester, NH. The food was really fresh and everything was made from scratch. We will definitely go back! We're planning another Lunch Date next month around Christmas.
