Help! Back in 1996, a friend would take me this place called "American Cafe". I'm not sure if that's the correct name. Anyhow, it was unique. It served greek food. The front half looked like a bakery with some tables, and the back half was outdoors. What was funny about it, was the outdoor part really was the alley between the restaurant and a grocery store. It was pretty cool, and had a gardenlike feel with all the greenery they placed outside. They even had live bands performing sometimes!
Anyhow, we always ordered the lamb shanks and rice pilaf. They had really great hummus too. I would like to go back and revisit the delicious shanks, but I don't quite remember where it was or the name, or if it's still even in existence. Google doesn't really give me any results I can identify with. Anyone remember this place? Is it still there? Or, is it in a different city in the greater LA area?
I would greatly appreciate any info. My tummy would appreciate it too! =)
