I'm a long time lurker who has greatly enjoyed all of the culinary wisdom that this site has had to offer.
I'm getting married this June at Independence Harbor in Assonet MA and I'm looking for rehearsal dinner ideas. I've been doing research in the area and nothing is jumping out at me so far (mixed or lackluster reviews, nothing that seems like it would be a really good fit for us).
Here are some guidelines for what I'm looking for:
There will be about 20-25 people in attendance.
Although we love all kinds of ethnic cuisine, the food should be something that has broad appeal (my parents and family are more meat and potatoes kind of people and wouldn't know what to do if we went to an authentic Japanese or Thai restaurant). For example, if we wanted to do something Japanese we'd have to go with something like a Hibachi grill place so they could get chicken, steak, etc and others could get sushi or whatever else they wanted.
Location - We're looking for someplace within about 30 minutes of our rehearsal location (Assonet, MA). Since most people are coming from the north, it could be further away if the location is to the north (maybe 40-45 minutes or as far north as Dedham).
If it's going to be at a restaurant, I'd prefer to have a place that offers a private room.
If you have slightly unconventional ideas, feel free to post them. For example, I would be down with a catered BBQ at our house (also in southeastern MA) with some great steaks, etc. The key for this is that I don't want my fiance or me to have to worry about the food, cooking, or any of that... I'd want it catered.
Boston is too far away, but Providence might be doable (we moved from Newton to SE Mass a little over a year ago and just haven't really checked out the Providence restaurant scene).
Some options that I'm considering:
*The catered BBQ option... more relaxed atmosphere.
*Tastings Wine Bar and Bistro at Patriot Place in Foxboro: (haven't eaten there myself yet, so I'd have to check it out. Not sure they can accommodate a group of 20-25 for Private Dining unless it's on the patio)
*Skipjack's in Foxboro: Limited non-seafood options... service and quality seem a little hot and cold. A little bit of a 'generic' rehearsal dinner choice.
We're very open to feedback on those options as well as any additional options that people may have. Thanks a ton in advance for your recommendations!
