Rediscovering Backfin Blue Cafe in Gulfport/St. Pete

This restaurant-in-a-cottage is a gem of a place - a casual Florida eatery in the charming enclave of Gulfport in St. Petersburg. Well-regarded for most-crab-crabcake on Florida's West Coast, I tried it again - and this time of year seems so perfect for it...they have an open-air side porch with about 8 tables and three interior rooms with 3 or 4 tables each. Get there just before the sun goes down when the spring breeze is blowing through. I stick with the specialities - starting with a bowl of corn/crab chowder with a sprinkle of crab on top....and then follow it with the appetizer portion of one crab cake. Plenty to eat and a bargain for 10 to 15 dollars. For the more hearty appetite, there are full two-crabcake meals, other seafood offerings, nightly specials, and, for the non-seafood eater, regular menu items of lasagna, meatloaf and three different sized portions of prime rib. Plus a cheery staff and rustic old time Florida atmosphere. Winesmoke
