Went to Red Raven Friday night. This is the third time we've been and we had a great meal once again.
I started with the arugula salad with pear, stilton and walnuts. Can't remember the dressing but the salad was a great combination of flavors. The stilton was fried and gooey on the inside, the walnuts were sweet and savory at the same time. Husband had the fried calamari over salad greens -- he said the calamari was cooked ok (not chewy) but he would have preferred it crispier.
For dinner, I had the tuna with Jasmine rice, pickled ginger and wasabi. The tuna was the most tender thing I've ever eaten. In fact, each time we've gone I've ordered fish and it's been done beautifully. (The first time we went I had chilean sea bass and the other three at the table couldn't stop eating it!). I wish the wasabi had been stronger (I like it "nose-tingling") but the dish was delicious regardless. H. had a grilled striped bass with tempura shrimp, fresh papaya in a coconut curry sauce. It received two thumbs up.
They have some funky drinks there -- I had the "Italitini" which is gin, campari and sweet vermouth -- strong stuff. H. had the "groovin noodle".
The room was essentially empty at 7pm on a friday night, though I have seen it busy. Service was friendly. They do take reservations. They DON'T take credit cards (but do take checks). Bill (pre-tip) for the two of us (apps, entree and 2 drinks) came to 82 bucks. A bit pricey for the locale but we'll definitely go back...the fish is worth it.
