Happened upon this super cute cafe the other day and it's a really lovely spot. What used to be the Women's Bookstore on Harbord is now a kid-friendly/focused cafe in a very pretty white, airy space. In the front of the cafe, they make coffees and serve pastries. They also have a small menu with soup, sandwiches, a salad or two. You can order "small bites" - a great snack idea where you choose any 3 from cut up carrots, celery, cukes, hummus, cheese, etc., for $3. In the back of the cafe, there is a lovely little art studio where kids (small and big alike) can make art creations - they have feathers and googly eyes and glue and paper and a whole bunch of art supplies on shelves beside a picnic table and you just create. They're also running art classes for kids and I'm not sure if the upstairs is also meant to have yoga or dance classes or something at some point. Anyway, back to the chow, the cortado was great as were the small bites and the pastries we tried. They're open 7 days a week, from 7 on weekdays and 8 on weekends (if memory serves). As a parent with young children, I really appreciate a place like this - it felt like places I had been to in New York or Vancouver. The staff were very friendly and the owner has obviously paid lots of attention to small but important details. I'll be back soon.
