I'm looking for an upscale (but not Carnelian Room type fancy) place for a business dinner in SF to make reservations for my boss and a dozen very, very important people from one of our most important clients next Tuesday.
It can't be too noisy (it is, afterall, a biz dinner), but the restaurant should have some life. The food can't be too ethnic (the clients are from NJ so there might be some food phobias) but I'll be damned before I send my boss to a boring, standard restaurant. They can get steaks back in Jersey. This is SF and I want to broaden their gastronomic horizons.
I want our clients to walk away saying to each other "Wow, what a great time I had on our corporate visit. Really professional company with great taste. And the food was fantastic"
I'm thinking something along the lines of Ana Mandara. Pretty good food that's ethnic-inspired (though admittedly not authentic, but accessible to the phobic), not too noisy, beautiful setting, and good service with a pretty good wine list. Upscale prices, but not extortion. Correct me if I'm totally off base.
Other ideas, hounds?
