One of the better permanent sources of organic produce in San Francisco has suddenly closed for up to six months for remodeling. I feel bad for the staff who were laid off without notice.
I will miss having access to a wide variety of high quality organic produce within walking distance. The Real Foods on Stanyan at the edge of Cole Valley is at the top of my list right now for a replacement when a Farmer's Market won't do. But I'm wondering if anyone has thoughts on other possiblities in this portion of the city (Noe/Castro/Upper-Market/Mission). Other places I've tried include:
Rainbow: extremely limited selection and poor quality produce.
Buffalo (Castro/19th): very small selection
Tower Market: Outrageously overpriced (their conventional produce runs more than Real's organics).
Whole Foods: Also too expensive.
